Some Bad News. And Some Good News. Day 2.

Day #2 of The 90-Day Do Something Big Project
I received some really disappointing news this morning.
Jill, the publicist I hired for an 8-week media blitz starting on Monday, September 30th informed me that the Today Show replied to her email pitch saying, “Thank you, but no thank you.”
Dammit, Today Show. I really wanted to be on you.
Jill also received a reply from CBS This Morning saying they don’t do cooking demos.
Dammit, CBS This Morning!
Luckily there’s still an entire spreadsheet of media outlets that Jill contacted and hasn’t heard back from yet. Fingers crossed for some yes’s.
About Jill—I really truly was not going to hire her. Publicists are expensive.
When you write a book and have a publisher your publisher assigns you a staff publicist (who’s been great). But the staff publicist has so many authors to promote simultaneously that it’s hard to get adequate time and attention from her.
When I saw a few weeks ago that not enough was happening (to my liking) with The
The Dollop Book of Frosting in regards to reviews and press, I started researching and interviewing publicists.
I loved Jill from the moment I spoke to her.
I even told her that I couldn’t afford to hire her but I really wish I could because if I had the money I would pay her to just be my friend. She’s that awesome.
Aside from being honest, caring, and optimistic, Jill has worked with some pretty big names—Bobby Flay, Giada Delaurentis, and Ted Allen to name a few.
And now Heather “Cupcakes” Saffer.
When I decided to start this 90-Day Do Something Big Project it occurred to me that if I didn’t hire her I would not be fulfilling my “balls to the wall, all-out, full-force” promise in doing something BIG these next 90 days.
If I say I’m going to give it all I’ve got, I’m going to give it all I’ve got.
And thus, I welcomed Jill on board! Oh Jill, please make miracles happen.
Now for the good news today.
Sam’s Club contacted me today because they’d like me to do a book signing in November.
Woot!
Also, Wegmans would like me to do a book signing at their Penfield store in November.
Woot x2!
Other things Jill and I discussed today—TV show concepts for my Next Food Network Star audition video and ideas for the holiday blog tour I’m putting together.
And that wraps up Day #2 of the 90-Day Do Something Big Project!
Question: Will you attend one of my book signings? I’d love to have you.
What steps did you take today towards your big dream? Did you face any setbacks? Make any progress? I want to know!
